White Sauce and Variations
Preparation time 4 minutes. Cooking time 5 minutes.
We used the Microsafe® jug.
45 grams butter
1/4 cup plain flour
2 cups milk
Put butter into jug and microwave uncovered on high until melted (about 45 seconds). Mix in plain flour until a smooth paste. Return to microwave for 1 minute. Stir well. Add milk, slowly whisking in until smooth. Put lid on jug with pourer open. Microwave on high for 5 minutes, whisking twice through pourer.
Remove from microwave. Serve.
Garnish ideas (add after the sauce is cooked):
Some chopped spring onion or chives
or ½ cup grated tasty cheese, parmesan or blue cheese
or 1 tablespoon French mustard and a pinch of nutmeg
